Hansell Honoured as New Nets Opened

Tom Hansell has been honoured with newly- constructed batting nets being named after this club legend. The facilities, costing of approximately $30,000, provide Willetton with arguably the best facilities in the WACA competition.

Hansell was at first embarrassed by the suggestion of the nets being graced with his name. Canning City Mayor, Mr Joe Delle Donne officially declared the training grounds open this week in a small ceremony in front of family, friends and the entire Willetton Senior Squad.

Hansell’s involvement with the Willetton District Cricket Club has seen him involved with the game for more than fifteen years. A current member of the board, Hansell has done it all at the club, from playing to coaching to developing the District club into one of strongest in the competition.

Tom is much- loved and well respected by the entire playing group and members of the Dragons. The time and effort he has put in at the club over numerous years has been publicly recognised by the naming of the nets.

Tom can often be heard ‘needing a bowler’ during training or demanding that batsmen ‘keep it down’ during their net session and he is always making sure that everyone is playing with a ‘high elbow’.

A terrific character and figure of the Willetton Dragons, Tom Hansell’s recognition is thoroughly deserved.
